It's been a year since I've visited a new state park, and three years since I promised myself I'd visit all of Georgia's forty-something parks. So I made a quick pit stop to visit Reed Bingham State Park in south Georgia on my way home from Florida. It was just Ollie and me. He needed to stretch his legs and I needed a break from driving so I, on impulse, pulled off the interstate when I saw a sign for the park.
It has this beautiful lake where visitors can canoe or fish. It was so quiet and peaceful here on a little fishing dock over the lake.
There's a sandy beach area for swimmers. Ollie was really interested in the boat pulling a skier that went by.
Cattails or, as Adrian calls them, "Corndog Flowers." That's my thirty-something year old husband that calls them that...
Canoes can be rented, and there are pontoon boat tours available as well. Notice the alligator sign? I kept a really close eye on Ollie while we explored this area.
Apparently this is a great sight for wildlife viewings. I saw a doe but she ran for cover before I could capture a photo of her. We saw a couple of ducks and these huge bullfrog tadpoles. Other than the implication of a nearby alligator, this is all we saw. But it was mid-afternoon when we visited. The website says Bald Eagles can be seen here. Also, the gopher tortoise (our state reptile, did you know?), vultures, indigo snakes, and other critters can be seen here. I guess I'll have to come back to catch them all.
Ollie approved of the playground. It was near one of many campsites and a mini golf area. There are also kids' rodeo ponds. I'm guessing those are stocked ponds?
| Definitely in south Georgia with the Spanish moss. |
