Providence Canyon is truly unique, relative to other state parks of Georgia. It is a man-made canyon, formed by poor farming practices back in the nineteenth century.
I went with my two month old and my best friend. Good times were had, despite us getting lost on the loop trail. Seriously, who does that? We do.
We never made it into the canyon, we just ran out of time. We drove the two hours to get there after dropping the older boys off at school, and I had to be back in time to pick them up. So this was a short trip--one of those short adventures you take just to get out of town for a bit--but definitely not my last visit to Providence. I intend to go back with the whole family and camp over night so we can see the whole canyon.

Rusted, busted old trucks scattered throughout the woods.

I saw the same thing at Amicalola. Maybe it's a Georgia thing?

Oliver's first hike. Clearly he had a blast.

Since we couldn't do the canyon trail in time, we just explored the creek bed.
Definitely the most different of the parks I've visited so far, Providence is up there as one of the most beautiful places I've seen in Georgia. My friend has since moved toward the Okefenokee area, so I plan to arrange another of these memorable "girls day out" trips with her. Let's hope the alligators don't mind our obnoxious laughter and silliness as we explore their park.
