Mistletoe State Park #11

This was another "Pit Stop Park" we visited on the way home from my mother's house in North Carolina. Mistletoe State Park is located just a few miles off off I-20 in Appling, Georgia. It seems very similar to the other Pit Stop Parks we've visited en route to and from North Carolina--not mountainous like the more northern parks, and not swampy like the more southern parks. It's basically like a large backyard. Still, it was beautiful and quiet, a nice place to relax for a little while.

There is a lake, making boating, fishing, and swimming available. A nice, shaded playground is a great spot to let the boys run and get the wiggles out before cramming back into the car for the last leg of the trip home. We enjoyed a nice break from the road by playing on the playground, wading in the water, and playing in the sand. I did a little nature watching while the boys ran around.

The big boys climbing on the playset.

Two Canada Geese looking for snacks in the grass.

This one cannot stay out of the water.

A view of the lake.

A view of the playground.

There are cottages, tent and trailer campsites, and pioneer campsites available. There is also a 12 mile backpacking trail and a 3.5 mile nature trail. I'd like to go back and hike in the future. I feel sort of bad for my Pit Stop Parks, that are neglected in my haste to check another park off my list while travelling to and from another destination. Always the multitasker, I am!

There is also some geocaching to be done here. We only just started the whole geocaching thing, Julian especially enjoyed it. We hope to do some more in the near future, now that summer vacation is finally here. I personally am glad at least one of the boys enjoys geocaching, so that it may be easier to entice them to visit parks with me.

Until next time, Mistletoe!
